The sciatic nerve, which travels through the vertebrae and protected by the spinal column, is very sensitive to pressure. Pressure causes pain in the back and legs. Spinal disc herniation is a common cause of pressure, since the herniation weakens the spinal cord’s ability to provide protection for the nerve. Treatment for sciatica and pain relief efforts come from decompression, or removing the source of pressure. Also, physical support is very useful with decompression.
Discs will recover when compression is removed in 90% of all sciatica cases. Plenty of bed rests, wearing a back support plus self-exercises are the best forms of treatment. Treatment is the same, regardless of whether or not the problem is genetic. Additionally, massage therapy can offer relief in more severe cases, if the masseuse has had training in mobilizing the muscles.
